Water heater installation

A water heater is the one appliance in your bathroom that combines water, electricity, and a wall-mounted weight in the order most likely to ruin your week if it's done badly. We do it the slow way, every time.

Reachbay installs both storage and instant heaters across the Klang Valley. We're brand-agnostic but brand-aware — Joven, Ariston, Panasonic, Rheem, Alpha Smart, Pensonic. Each has its own mounting plate quirks, isolator preferences, and warranty conditions, and we keep a tidy notes file on the van for all of them.

Storage vs instant — quick guide

Storage tanks (typically 30 – 90 L) suit households with two or more bathrooms used in the same hour. They handle multiple back-to-back showers without a temperature dip, but draw more standby power and need annual flushing in our hard-water areas.

Instant heaters fit perfectly in single-bathroom condos and en-suites. Less standby loss, no flushing, but they don't love being asked to fill a bathtub. We'll tell you which fits your usage pattern before you commit to a brand.

What a tidy install includes

  • Wall survey to confirm the mounting type — concrete, brick, plasterboard with stud, or ALC block. Each needs its own anchor system.
  • Brand-correct mounting bracket with manufacturer-spec fixings.
  • 20 mm or 22 mm copper or PPR cold inlet, hot outlet, and pressure relief drain run to a safe terminal.
  • Dedicated ELCB / RCBO trip and grounding check on the existing CU.
  • Stop valves on both inlet and outlet so future servicing doesn't mean a whole-house shutoff.
  • First-fill, leak check, and discharge test of the pressure relief valve in your presence.

Replacement of an existing unit

Most heater replacements take 75 – 110 minutes, including draining the old tank, removing it, mounting the new one, and re-pressurising. We bring the appropriate trolley for the haul-down and dispose of the old unit responsibly through our recycling partner.

What it tends to cost

Instant heater installation (homeowner-supplied unit): RM220 – RM320. Storage heater installation: RM420 – RM680 depending on size and bracket complexity. Add-ons like a dedicated RCBO, water filter, or thermostatic mixing valve are itemised separately on the quote.

Common questions

About water heaters

Can you install a heater I bought online?

Yes, and most of our installs are exactly that. We check the box contents and the warranty conditions before we begin — some brands void warranty if a non-authorised installer is used; we'll flag that up front.

What size storage tank do I need?

Quick rule: 30 – 40 L for a single bathroom of 1–2 users, 60 L for two bathrooms, 90 L for larger landed homes with three or more simultaneous showers. We'll ask about your real morning routine before recommending.

How often does a storage heater need flushing?

Yearly in central KL, every 18 months in the outer Klang Valley where the water is a touch softer. Skipping it is the leading reason warranties get refused.
